I think it is better to start with the campaign so you can get to know how the game and characters work. The multiplayer has not so much different content yet but they will release more. IIRC "cracks" aren't possible with games that store important parts of the game's data on servers, and Battleborn is likely one such game given how you need to connect to servers to play even just training mode.
